USI
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a unique reference number issued by the Australian government. It is a lifelong number that creates a secure online record of your nationally recognized training and qualifications obtained in Australia.
It is a government requirement that all students undertaking nationally recognized training or higher education in Australia have a USI. Without a USI, you will not be able to graduate or receive your qualification or statement of attainment.
The USI also provides you with access to an online record of all your training, which can be useful when applying for a job, seeking a credit transfer, or proving prerequisites for further study.
All domestic students undertaking vocational education and training (VET).
All higher education students (including university students) who are graduating from an Australian-based course from January 1, 2023 onwards.
International students studying in Australia for any part of their course.
Note: International students who completed all their studies outside of Australia and are not returning to Australia to graduate may not need a USI.
Creating a USI is free and takes only a few minutes. If you have undertaken any nationally recognized training in Australia since 2015, you may already have one. You should check if you have a USI before creating a new one.
Step 1: Check if you have a USI Visit the official USI website and select “Find your USI.” You can search for your USI using your personal details and an identification document.
Step 2: Create a new USI If you don’t have a USI, you can create one by following these steps:
Go to the official USI website at www.usi.gov.au.
Click on “Create your USI” and follow the prompts.
You will need a valid form of identification, such as your non-Australian passport with your Australian visa.
It’s important that the name and date of birth you enter match exactly with the details on your identification document.
For International Students: You must be physically in Australia to create your USI, as the system needs to verify your visa has been activated upon entry.
Once you have your USI, you must provide it to St Martin College. The college will then verify your USI to ensure your personal details match the government’s registry. If the details do not match, you may need to correct them with either the college or the USI Registry to avoid delays in your enrolment and graduation.
